Spectacular cake--can I summon the energy to do all this in my crowded kitchen? Like Naomi, I don't have a stand mixer (where would I put it? next to the non-existent microwave perhaps?) but chocolate cake. . . meringue. . . ganache. A girl can dream.

Okay, well, I never would have done it if I hadn't been on assignment, but...Nancy, I know your kitchen. Also, I did it all in my Spanish kitchen here in Madrid. It's a lot of separate steps, but each is really simple. So, I think...yeah, go for it? It's pretty great.

I'll take up the challenge and let you know--it's the meringue that has me kinda timid but it seems absolutely essential. Also, I know Spanish kitchens and their limitations, but WHAT are you doing in Madrid?

So impressive. But amazing diligence required, plus a stand mixer, neither of which I have on hand right now. O'm happy to imagine many others making the cake.

(note: The amount of cornstarch is missing...)

Shoot! I'm sorry. 1 tbsp corn starch. I don't have a stand mixer right now. I did it all with a handheld mixer. I just figured it would be easier in a stand mixer. It could be done with just a whisk, too!

Yes I'd be whisking! Thank-you. And I hope your holidays are full of ease and good people.

obvi, the whisking is in lieu of going to the gym
