A significant portion of my family is celiac, as am I, and I've had good success with Aran Goyoaga's wonderful cookbooks on gluten-free baking and gluten-free breads (she is a gluten-free bread-baking master, and very lovely on top of that). The site The Loopy Whisk also has a lot of excellent gluten-free recipes (cinnamon rolls, pizza crust, etc.), recipes where the texture hasn't made me think "oh, this is a passable alternative" but "oh, this is exactly right!"

Hi! Just writing to say be careful of soy sauce! Rice-based is good but not if they put regular soy sauce on it. : (

Fantastic answer, Tamar.

Two of my kids and I were diagnosed with Celiac in the last year or so, and An Everlasting Meal was one of the few things that gave me hope when I realized Boston only has half a dozen truly gluten free restaurants and if we were ever going to eat anything good I was going to have to make it myself. Thank you, Tamar, for your gentle encouragement to simmer stock, batch-cook vegetables, etc. I even made lime curd the other day. Lime curd!

Question-asker: the carefreeness is long gone and I don't want to minimize that (am still mourning my grandmother's cinnamon rolls, kid birthday parties are a gluten nightmare). The disappointment is real, but at this point I'm starting to wrench back some of joy. I know you will, too.

Great, as always. The major regular issue for celiacs with east Asian restaurants is the wheat in most standard soy sauces...
