My comment relates not to the meaty question, but to your lovely story about meeting your husband, which reminds me of my own...

It was also 2011, and I was at a tailgate (the only one I've ever been too, since they don't exist in Europe). A friend introduced me to Mike, and my first impression was that he was gorgeous. My second was that his right hand had only three digits, and his left forearm was half missing. But far from hiding his hands in pockets or arms by his sides, there he was holding court to a bunch of people, wildly gesticulating with his funny looking hands.

Reader, I married him.

brilliant wonderful answer... Expectations (our own and those of others) can be killers, so they need to be managed.

I love this! But I feel like women are subject to excessive scrutiny around our eating choices that men avoid. I don’t even want to contemplate what people would say if I skipped a full meal and ate a bag of chips instead. And maybe I shouldn’t care—but I do.

I describe myself as an ethical omnivore. I tend to eat veggie much of the time. As a guest, I will eat what is put in front of me since to do otherwise is rude. I'm not sure whether I would pick off the pepperoni but then the pizza parties I go to usually allow people to shoose their toppings. I do try to accommodate dietary restrictions and ask questions if I am unclear about what they are. I do buy my meat from a reputable butcher not the supermarket. I find most of my friends have the same concerns about the raising of factory animals, their treatment and sustainability. Good luck in educating your friends and try to have a good time.
